Harrison Wayne - "A wedge to keep the door open," 2024

$300.00

Pine, latex paint, butterfly wing exposed to concentrated hydrogen peroxide.
5 1/2 inch by 3 1/2 inch by 1 1/2 inch.

Created at the end of my residency, this wedge features a monarch butterfly wing which was oxidized violently through exposure to weapons-grade hydrogen peroxide solution. My residency at Stove Works was a significant transition point in my life as I stepped away from my career as a research chemist working in an industrial manufacturing plant to come work in Tennessee. During my time in Chattanooga, the butterfly became a symbol of intense focus for me in part due to its virtue of representing beauty through intense transformations.
