Crasis - "Devotional Panel (4. Anatomy)," 2024
Crasis (/krey-sis/ from the Greek ______, "mixing", "blending") is a transdiciplinary collaborative duo made up of Andy P. Davis and Anne Lukins. Crasis uses a range of strategies, including sculpture, writing, and performance. We draw from dystopian sci-fi, medieval futurism, and personal mythology to imagine future ecologies.
This relief was modeled in residence at Stove Works using a wax based clay. Anne created an initial drawing for the relief based on a medieval anatomical diagram of the human body. Andy and Anne took turns working on the relief, adding and subtracting clay, playing with biomorphic shapes. The clay was then cast to make a mold, and then cast again to make a positive in hydrocal (a casting material made from plaster and crystalline silica). Anne and Andy designed a metal frame together, and fabricated it during the final days of the residency, using the wonderful metal shop at Stove Works.
