Artists help us to make sense of the universe, and artist residencies help to make their universe connected.
Cosmic Connection imagines the Stove Works residency as a space station in the cosmos, welcoming artists on their journeys through practices, careers, and life's seasons to take time and space for restoration, experimentation, and collaboration.
The experiences, landscapes, and stories expressed in the works of this exhibit represent the eclectic worlds of Stove Works' residents, who come from far and wide to explore and exchange ideas and visions. During their time on site and in Chattanooga, residents bring these ideas to life in their studios, hallways, galleries, and throughout the city. With an abundance of tools, resources, and networks, they make the residency their intergalactic playground, creating several of the exhibit's pieces at the residency.
As much as artists receive from this residency, the ultimate beneficiaries are Chattanooga's communities, as we gain inspiration from open studios, instruction from resident workshops, and growth from meaningful relationships as artists share their wonderful worlds with ours. [Your patronage of this work and support helps ensure that Stove Works remains a celestial haven for many light years to come.]
In celebration of the Cosmic Connection theme, the dress code for this year's Red Dot is Intergalactic Funk. We invite you to come prepared to board the Parliament Funkadelic Mothership.
