Post-Ironic-Neo-Imaginative-Structures
Coordinated by Yamman Dean Azzouz & Evan Bruce

May 2nd–May 31st

A show about language. We have been thinking about shifting windows of discourse. What does it mean when the highest office’s media operations mirror that of a 2017 4chan member? Memes and internet culture have been absorbed into corporate lexicon, but the internet constantly shifts its sensibilities, proving its humor can be slippery and evade corporate interests. Often confused to be “devolving”, especially with the name “brain rot”, in the realm of digital bile we believe there is a truth about communication, of unfettered idealogical exchange. On one hand it’s the Wendy’s twitter account posting memes, The White house disseminating deportation ASMR, or the stratospheric investment in OpenAI so they can build the singularity. On the other hand it’s beloved characters like Tum Tum Tum Sahur and Bombardillo Crocadillo and 15 second videos with more visual and auditory information than all the films from the 1910s combined. One aims to influence imagination, the other sets it free. We are in a post-truth era. None of these futures are certain, these are all imaginations, fantasies, and unrealized dreams. Imagination is the new truth. What do our imaginations allow? What can they create?
