The act of describing a work of art in a piece of literature is called "ekphrasis." Turning toward art allows writers to displace their own concerns onto an external site. Might we approach the "description" of art as a conversation, as if the art/artist could talk back? This workshop will include poetry about art, and responses to art with an eye toward the moment when the artwork changes or disrupts our perspectives or assumptions.
