A quirky and important film from the mid-80’s, The Brother From Another Planet explores race, selfhood, assimilation, and technological influence by allegorizing the experience of an extra-terrestrial, the other, who presents as a young black man. An early and important example in a long list of film, literature, and music that have been included and influential in Afrofuturist thought. This film will be an excellent primer for Sunday’s reading group.
